Petrol Stations Beg Customers For Patronage In Kano
Petrol filling station attendants in Kano, now beg motorists for patronage, following the sustained availability of the commodity in the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Investigations in the commercial town revealed that the attendants literally beckon on customers at sight, to convince them to purchase the commodity.
The filling stations located on Ring Road, Murtala Mohammed Way and Bayero University Kano (BUK) Road, were most of the time empty due to poor turnout of motorists and other customers.
One of the attendants who pleaded anonymity, explained that the situation had led to low sales, thereby affecting the station’s profit margin.
It was also observed that motorists in the area no longer indulged in panic buying of petrol, as they could always buy the commodity at their own convenience.
A motorist, Alhaji Abba Babale, said the situation was a welcome development, saying: “I do not waste my time on long queues again, just to buy fuel and at exorbitant rates too”.
“I am happy that we have been saved from the cruel activities of the service stations, it is now our turn to dictate happenings at the filling stations,” he said.
A commercial bus driver, Malam Jibrin Adamu, commended the Federal Government for making fuel available at the filling stations, saying it had minimised the operations of touts and hawkers.
“We have suffered for too long in the hands of this people. I only pray that they will sustain the steady supply so that the sales boys will continue to beg us for patronage instead of customers lobbying them to serve us,” Adamu said.
It was gathered that virtually all the filling stations in the city now serve petrol ceaselessly, unlike before when they sold the commodity at odd hours and often far above the official rate of N65 per litre.
