Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has assured the people of Rivers State that with the distractions over, he has no reason not to deliver on promises and to continue to work hard to justify their mandate.

Governor Amaechi made the declaration Wednesday in Government House, shortly after an Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, struck out an appeal filed by the 2007 governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Rivers State, Chief Bekinbo Soberekon, challenging the judegment,  the lower Tribunal dismissal of his election petition for lack of merit

The Governor commended the judiciary for correcting  the mistakes in Nigeria’s democracy by rescuing the process to survive, saying the mistake in Nigeria’s democracy were being corrected by the courts and lauded the judiciary for living up to expectation, especially in the way it has demonstrated competence.

He thanked the judiciary for protecting the poor against the influential members of society, noting that “ the courts have shown that no matter how mighty the rich are, the court would continue to defend the rights of the poor”.

Governor Amaechi advised those still opposing the government to join hands with the present administration to improve the quality of life of Rivers people.

According to him, “one thing we would not do as a people is to sell the rights of Rivers people; we cannot because some people are outside government and looking for the benefit of government to the detriment of the majority”.

He advised them to abandon their private interest and work for the benefit of the state and thanked the PDP for “ignoring all the rumours peddled against me before the judgement of the Appeal Court”.

Praising God for “what He has  continued to do for me and my family”, the governor also thanked Rivers people for their continued support and solidarity

In his reaction, the Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Godspower Ake thanked God that the issue of who is the Governor of Rivers State has been put to rest, stressing that the party would continue to support Governor Amaechi to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

On his part, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Ken Chikere said the court has delivered its Judgment adding that it has spoken the minds of the majority of Rivers people.
