No Super Eagles Guarantees For City’s Onuoha

Nigeria Technical adviser Lars Lagerback will meet with Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha during his trip to England on Wednesday, but is offering no guarantees, according to Super Eagles Media Officer Idah Peterside.

Last month, Onuoha stated  that he would consider an approach to represent Nigeria, and last week, he restated that commitment in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.

Peterside has now disclosed that discussions had been opened with Onuoha prior to this time, but that he would still need to earn his spot on the team.

“We had reached out to him some time ago, but what he said at that time was that he needed to clear some things up with his family.

“It is good news for us that he has made the consultations and is now ready to play for Nigeria.

“But saying he wants to represent Nigeria does not automatically guarantee him a place in the team. The coach has made that clear to everyone that they have to show that they are committed and ready to give everything for their country.

“Lagerback will be in England on the 14th to meet with the players, and I am sure he will also meet with Onuoha just like the others.”
