Prof. Ikenna Onyido, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia, has assured the students that the institution will not increase its fees.

A statement signed by the institution’s spokesman, Mr Ejike Uchella, said Onyido gave the assurance while inaugurating the Students Union Government of the university.

The statement made available to The Tide’s source in Umuahia recently, stated that with the assurance, the Vice Chancellor laid to rest speculations that the university had concluded plans to increase its charges.

“We have received reports that some of you are going about spreading rumour that the university has concluded plans to announce a new fee regime,” the statement said.

It explained that the rumour was baseless, adding that the institution would continue to manage its lean resources judiciously.

It stated that those peddling the falsehood were envious of the steady progress collectively made by the hardworking members of the university over the years.

The source reports that new students are expected to pay N37,500 which includes N8,000 acceptance fee and N2,000 departmental fees, while the old students would pay a total of N22,000.

The university charges N7,000 per session as accommodation fee for students who are allocated bed spaces in the hostels.
