NGO Donates Laptops, Others To Schools

Education House Foundation, a Non-Goverrnmental Organisation with offshoots in Ghana and Nigeria has given prizes of laptops to private schools that emerged first and second in a raffle draw, while others went away with instructional materials, etisalat mobile phones and phone lines during its 2010 Career Success Exposition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Speaking, the Chairman and CEO of Education  House Foundation, Mr. Amos Dick, in his brief address thanked participants for turning out en-masse for the exposition. He urged the pupils and students of various private schools in attendance to endeavor to understand their abilities as to become successful in their career pursuits. He added that students and pupils needed to be attentive in the classroom and jettison the tendencies to be distracted while learning.

In her keynote address at the event, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi, represented by a senior official of the Ministry,  Mrs. Solomon stated that .Education occupies a pivotal place in human life and, as such, cannot be ignored.

According to her, it was against this background that the River State Governor, Rt.  Hon. ChlbUlke Rotimi Amaechi declared a state of emergency in the education sector of the state, towards achieving quality education.

The commissioner, while commending Education  House Foundation for the organised exposition noted that, for education to succeed anywhere, there would be need for concerted efforts by the stakeholders to put education on an enviable pedestal.

She stated that it was in recognition of the importance roles education plays in the society that made the state government to commit hugc state resources to the funding of education at all levels.

Also, Chairman of the occasion and President, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State chapter”, Dr. Peter Harrison, in his opening remarks praised Education House Foundation for promoting confidence in higher education home and abroad. He said that this was the reason NAPPS considered collaboration with the organisation as vital for the achievement of quality education delivery .He was particularly enthused that the occasion had been able to provide answers to numerous questions associated with quality higher education. Also, he thanked the Foundation for promoting social responsibility through award of scholarships to pupils and students in the state, and helping to make overseas admission for Nigerians a seamless effort. Similarly, he applauded the Chief Executive Officer, COE, of Education House Foundation, Mr. Amos Dick for demonstration patriotic zeal by imparting the Nigerian youths.

Similarly, Mrs. Atonye Atasia, in the exposition topic, Right Attitude for New Beginning, described attitude as opinion or a general feeling about a thing. The Proprietress of Stepping Stone International Schools regretted a society without relevant role models as the bane of the youths.

She called on the pupils and students to strive for good character. She equally  called for change of attitude towards academic subjects. In her view, students must come to terms with the fact that every subject matters .

Mr. Henry Obudu, a resource person, speaking on Embracing Grassroots Education, stated that education is a catalyst for youth development. According to him, the answer to Nigeria’s socio-political problems lied in the development of grassroots education.

He tasked stakeholders to devise means of catching the young ones early before their attention may be taken away by other interests, adding that now that the world had moved away from industrial age to information age, so much would be expected from the teachers to improve the young ones by helping them, among other to eschew examination malpractice which he said kills the brain.

The occasion witnessed presentation of drama sketches highlighting the importance of peace in the society as well as choreography and songs.

Meanwhile, participants have commended Education House Foundation (owners of education House Limited, Ghana, Nigeria) for its renewed vision towards enthroning quality education and career success for the Nigerian youths.
