Late Camping Due To Paucity Of Funds Olympic Qualifier

The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has attributed the delay in the resumption of camp ahead of the Olympic qualifiers and Commonwealth Games to lack of fund. The qualifier is scheduled for September in Turkey ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games. “For now, we don’t have the funds for the closed camping we had earlier proposed for this month in Abuja,’’ Babatunde Adedimeji, NWF Technical Director, told newsmen in Lagos. Adedimeji said no fewer than 10 male and 12 female weightlifters would be invited to camp for the Commonwealth Games. He also explained that some U-17 weightlifters would be invited to the closed camp. When contacted, Uche Onwuneh, the NWF Secretary, however, said that the Federal Government had the final say on matters relating to fund. “Anytime the fund is available, we will just fix a date for the closed camp,’’ he said.
