The Jigawa government has promised to continue with the legacies left by late Alili Galadima, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A statement by NFF’s Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, said Governor Sule Lamido made the pledge recently in Dutse when NFF chieftains paid a condolence visit to him.

Lamido promised to sustain the National Division One B League football club, Ajiya Babes, founded and funded by Galadima.

He described Galadima, who was also the INEC chairman in the state as a courageous and diligent man.

“He was one man who could not be easily rattled; he was firm, steadfast and fair–minded.

“We owe it to his memory to sustain the legacies he left such as matured politicking and the football club, Ajiya Babes,” Lamido said.

Galadima died in auto crash on his way to represent the NFF president in Niamey on March 12 at the 2011 African Nations Championship qualifier between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

Earlier, NFF President Sani Lulu condoled with the government and people of Jigawa State for the loss of their “illustrious and likeable son, who died in active service to fatherland.

“Late Galadima, in the little time he spent with us, contributed immensely to the cause of Nigerian football through robust and innovative ideas submitted at meetings of the NFF Board.

“It is with every sense of humility that we urge that his legacies should be sustained by the government of Jigawa State.

“Perhaps, the government can consider taking over Ajiya Babes in order that the man’s dream does not die.”

Lulu said.said that football was a game capable of eradicating the ills of a society and projecting positively a nation’s image.

The NFF train later moved to Gumel to watch a league match between Ajiya Babes and Court of Appeal, and presented N500,000 to the club.

They also visited Galadima’s house where the board members also presented some money to the family.
