Ikuru Promises End To Eleme, Okrika, Ogu/Bolo Boundary Disputes

Rivers State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, Engr. Tele Ikuru has assured that the present government would proffer lasting solution to the lingering boundary problems between Eleme, Okrika and Ogu-Bolo Local Government Areas.

Engr. Ikuru gave this assurance while on boundary demarcation enlightenment/sensitisation visit of Eleme Local Government Area on Thursday.

The Deputy Governor,who spoke through the Director of Conflict Resolution and Boundaries, Barrister ThankGod Ekine, urged the chiefs, elders and other stakeholders of the area to educate the people on the need to remain peaceful when the forth-coming boundary demarcation exercise begins.

He disclosed that a team of boundary experts would soon be doing survey work on the boundary lines between the three local government areas and warned the youths and other categories of persons to desist from doing anything along the boundary lines.

Allaying the fears of the people, he explained that the boundary demarcation exercise would be based on the Supreme Court judgment and Charles Grandville’s Committee Report on the issue, noting that local labour from Eleme or Okrika would not be needed during the period of the exercise.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Hon. Nyimenuate Ngofa and a former Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Gomba Osarolor pointed out that, although their Okrika brothers had been doing some mischievous things along the boundary lines, they were willing to abide by the state government peace process, urging the commission to be truthful.

Also speaking, the member, representing Eleme Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Isaac Kamalu called on all the communities concerned to abide by the government peace process, appealing to government’s to anchor the demarcation exercise on the provisions of the law.
