FRSC Declares War Against Fake Drivers’ Licence, Number Plates
Mr Hyginus Fuomsuk, Enugu Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), says the commission is to clamp down on motorists with fake drivers’ licence and number plates.
Fuomsuk told newsmen in an interview in Enugu that the exercise tagged, “Operation Eagle Eye’’, has commenced on April 19 and will terminate on April 23.
The FRSC Commander said the exercise which, would simultaneously hold throughout the federation, would be carried out in Enugu, Nsukka, 9th Mile and Udi.
He said that it would be conducted in collaboration with other security agencies like the Police, NSCDC, SSS, board of internal revenue and the ministry of transport.
“Violators of number plates will attract a fine of N3, 000 while that of drivers’ licence will cost N10, 000.
“We advise people to obtain their vehicle documents from the right agencies because forgery is an offence that denies government of revenue,’’ Fuomsuk said.
Fuomsuk said the FRSC would clamp down on non-reflective, plastic and defaced number plate as well as those using government number plates on private cars.
“Unless Nigerians imbibe the ethics of carefulness, the number of traffic offenders will not reduce. For now we are trying to improve on what we were doing.
“In reviewing our activities, in February we focused on over-loading and in March we shifted focus to crash helmet,’’ he said.
He said that 418 motorists were arrested for various traffic offences and that 184 vehicles were impounded last Easter.
The sector commander said that a lack of helmet, seat belt violations and non functional vehicle lights were offences mostly committed by motorists.
He advised motorists to promptly renew their vehicle documents because the FRSC was determined to flush out bad road users on highways.
