Energy Economics’ Body Honours SPDC’s MD, Others

The Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE), an organisation that seeks to understand the relationship between energy and economics, last week, conferred a Distinguished Corporate Award and Honourary Membership Award on the Managing Director of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, at its 3rd annual international conference in Abuja.

A statement by Shell spokesman, Precious Okolobo, said the SPDC MD was among four individuals who were honoured for their pioneering role in the development of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

The others were the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah, Director General, Energy Commission of Nigeria, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, and former Special Adviser to the President on Energy Matters, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe.

The citations read on the men highlighted their achievements in exploration and production of oil and gas within and outside Nigeria.

Mutiu was particularly commended for a career in Shell that has spanned some 32 years, resulting in his present appointment as SPDC MD, Shell Nigeria country chair and vice president production, Sub-Saharan Africa.

NAEE President, Prof. Akin Iwayemi handed out plaques and certificates to the awardees.

“We are very proud to honour these hardworking and professional Nigerians, and urge others to emulate them,” the University of Ibadan Economics lecturer added.

Established in 2006, The Tide gathered that the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics is an affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics.
