Ebonyi Lauds Police Over Ezza-Ezillo Crisis

The Ebonyi Executive Council has absolved Governor  Martin Elechi of complicity in the interrogation of some prominent politicians over the fratricidal clash in Ezza-Ezillo community.  The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Chief Egwu Chima state this while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki on the outcome of  the state Executive Council meeting.

Chima said  contrary to some “mischievous’’ insinuations in several quarters, the governor had no hand in the interrogation of the Ebonyi politicians by the police in Abuja.

“The interrogation, detention and bailing of the politicians were direct steps and decisions taken solely by the police and other security agencies. “It is noteworthy that these security agencies have for long been following and investigating the crisis and thus have a better intelligence report on the matter,” he said.

The commissioner said that those making the insinuations should commend the governor for his extra-ordinary wisdom, maturity and patience in handling the crisis.

“In spite of the obviously orchestrated provocations and accusations of leadership inertia against the government by those fuelling the crisis, the governor has continued to tow the path of peace and dialogue in resolving the crisis,” he said.

He said the state government appreciated the way the Inspector General of Police, the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies, used their security and intelligence ingenuity to handle the problem.
