Commissioner Hails Foundation Over Concern For Underprivileged
The Rivers State Information and Communications Commissioner, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has extolled the vision of the Sycamore Foundation, a non governmental organisation in the State for its commitment to the welfare of the less privileged in society.
Mrs. Semenitari, who made the commendation when the leadership of the body led by its President, Mrs. Pat Oguafor paid her a courtesy visit in her office, expressed the willingness of the State government to effectively partner with well-meaning and public spirited organisations to provide succor and a sense of purpose for the less privileged in the State.
The Commissioner said that the policies, projects and programmes embarked upon in all sectors of the State economy by the Amaechi-led administration were a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to touch the lives of the indigent and hitherto disillusioned members of the State.
Mrs. Semenitari, who said that the State government is deeply interested in building human beings, noted that one way the present administration intends to achieve this, is through the provision of quality education and healthcare for the less privileged.
She lauded them for their special interest in the children of the poor in society and enjoined related organisations in the State to borrow a leaf from the values being pursued by the leadership and members of the Sycamore Foundation
The Commissioner pledged her support to under write the school fees of seven of the less privileged children being catered for by the Sycamore Foundation in public schools, and expressed her preparedness to support the body in its public awareness campaign initiative on the obvious need for the rich to reach out to the poor in society, within and outside Rivers State and Nigeria.
Earlier, in her address, the President of the Sycamore Foundation, Mrs. Pat Oguafor had thanked the State government for being people-oriented and friendly in its policy drive and implementation efforts, saying that their heart beat was to partner with the State government and public spirited bodies and individuals to make life more meaningful for the less privileged in society.
She appealed to the State government to assist the Foundation with an 18 seater bus to enable the group to reach out to motherless babies and orphanage homes in parts of the State.
