Dr Jerry Agad, the Chairman, Board of National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), has urged governing councils of colleges of education to redouble their efforts to attain qualitative teacher education.

Agada, who made the call in Abuja recently in an interview with newsmen,  promised the commission’s assistance to them to achieve the desired goals.

“Education is on the concurrent list, no attention given to education is too much, the challenges of funding just need to be addressed by the government,” he noted.

He urged also stakeholders in the sector to assist governing councils of the colleges of education to attain progressive and qualitative teacher education in the country.

Also speaking, Prof. Muhammed Junaid, the Executive Secretary, NCCE, urged the authorities of colleges of education to look for ways to raise funds for their activities to enhance the performance of their programmes

He also promised that the commission would assist the governing councils to effectively discharge their functions.

“NCCE has deemed it fit to develop a teaching practice monitoring tool for effective monitoring of implementation of teaching practice in all NCE awarding institutions.

“This disposition, you will agree with me, is a proactive response to the present dwindling standards in the quality of graduates from our institutions of higher learning,” Junaid said.
