As political drum beats hot up, a former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief D.S.P. Alameyesiegha and ex-Sports Minister, Alaba Graham Douglas are among the heavy weights that have endorsed the candidature of the President of Ijaw Youth Council world wide (IYC), Dr. Chris Ekiyor  contest the Patani/Bomadi Federal Constituency in the House of Representative come next general election.

At a rally jointly organised by the Delta Izo Renuissance for change as well as Women and Youths in politics last week and the Ijaw youth leader was given an overwhelming approval to pick up the PDP flag enroute to election victory.

Speaking at the rally, Ekiyor said that he has accepted the peoples call to represent them at the lower chambers of the National Assembly, and pledged to be a vanguard in addressing problems of the Niger Delta region.

Ekiyor recalled the dogged fight of some Ijaw youths who dared the military to push for change in the region, only for those  he called “cool interlopers” to seat at the hallow chambers of the National Assembly to share national resources to themselves without recourse to those who made sacrifices for wind of change to take it course.

He appealed to the people to embrace the spirit of change even as he assured that the staus-quo must change in 2011 to give the people a new lease of life.

Ekiyor also urged the people to be civil in the actions as well maintain peace at all times. He added that it is no longer  time for war but time to support the growth of democracy in the polity.

According to him, with the peoples support, the land would be delivered from the shackles of oppressors that have mortgage the development of the area in particular and the Niger Delta region in general.

In her speech at the rally, the president and founder of peculiar women and youths in policies, Deaconess Awani Akande spoke of the commitment of the Group to work for the election of Ekiyor into the National Assembly. She said the decision of the Group to support Ekiyor was based on his track records and potentials.

Akande noted that the people have resolved to work with elder statesmen of the region including Alaimeysiegha, Douglas and  others who have endorsed Ekiyor’s candidature for theNational Assembly.
