‘Declare S’East Disaster Zone’

Worried  over the collapse of security in the South East  geo- political zone, members of the South East Conference of Speakers’ have called on the Federal Government to declare  the zone without  delay, a security disaster area.  

The Speakers who made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of their One-Day meeting in Enugu Wednesday , noted that  the call became necessary to enable the people of the zone  have rest of mind and sleep at night with their two eyes closed, regretting the collapse of  security situation in the geo-political zone.

They also used the forum to call on  members of the National Assembly to see the need to balance the zonal structure of Nigeria in terms of state creation  in the on-going constitution amendment in the country.  

The conference, however, commended the working relationship and stability between the governors of the South East zone  and their respective Legislative Houses, urging them not to relent in the over all interest of the entire people of the area.

The 3- Point  communiqué which was read to newsmen by the host speaker, Barrister  Eugene Odo, on behalf of Barrister Augustine Nwankwagu (Ebonyi), Hon. Agwu U. Agwu (Abia), Chief Anayo N. Nnebe (Anambra) and Hon. Goodluck  Opia of  Imo state.
