‘Court Verdict’ll Strengthen Power Rotation In Rivers’
Former security adviser to ex-governor of Rivers State, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, says Wednesday’s Appeal Court judgement on Amaechi against Chief Bekinbo Soberekon, an Accord Party guber candidate in 2007 elections would strengthen power rotation in the state.
Chief Sara-Igbe, who bared his mind in a telephone chat with The Tide also said the judgement had vindicated him, as he had predicted earlier.
The Kalabari-born politician said that the power rotation agreement endorsed by stakeholders was meant to give meaning to the agreement amongst the ethnic groups in the state, adding that, “if the Ikwere man is there, we should support him, so that when the Kalabari man rules, we will also support him”.
Besides that, he argued that there have been precedent to the Amaechi/Soberekon case, listing such cases as that of Atiku versus Abubakar and Uduaghan versus AC guber candidate in Delta States.
For former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General in the old Rivers State, Barrister Onueze Okocha, the Appeal Court judgement was a welcome development.
He remarked that the people of the state would jubilate since justice has been done to the matter, “the Governor can now proceed with the good work he is doing without the unnecessary distractions caused by that case”, he added.
Commenting on the development, former Commissioner for Economic Development in the old Rivers State, Chief Monday Okonny said the ruling would end the internal wranglings in the state.
“Instead of having decisions and counter decisions and instead of following small disagreements of who becomes who, we should work towards cohesion and enhancement of the youth. Chief Okonny however said that he is currently engaged in the vanguard of promoting fiscal federalism and equity in the country.
Speaking on why the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) conducted a solidarity march for the Governor, President of the body, Comrade Edison Ehie said that, Governor Amaechi merited the solidarity march.
