RVHA To Establish Statistics Bureau
The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced the process of establishing the State Bureau of Statistics with the introduction of a bill seeking for the establishment of the state statistical system.
The 24-page bill had already scaled its first hurdles at the floor of the state House of Assembly.
Presenting the bill during the House session, the chief whip of the House, Hon. Isaac Kamalu said the bill seek among other things to raise public awareness about the importance and role of statistical information to society, collect, process, analysis and disseminate quality statistical data and information in a coordinated and timely manner.
The bill also seeks to promote the use of best practice and international standards in statistical production, management and dissemination as well as build a sustainable capacity for the production and use of statistical data and information in the state.
According to Kamalu the proposed state statistical system would comprise four main elements, adding that when the bill is pass into law, it would be cited as the state statistic law 2010.
He urged the House to give the bill an accelerated hearing so that the state could benefits from the objective of the bill.
The deputy speaker, Hon Dunamene Deekor who presided over the day’s session directed the house committee on business and rules to ensure that the bill is schedule on time.
