RSG Commends Peaceful Initiative Of Odual People

The Rivers State Government has said that it is impressed with the peaceful initiative of the Odual people in Abua/Odual local government area even in a period when other communities find it difficult to live together in peace.

Secretary to the state government, Magnus Abe who made this known during the Abua/Odual for Christ campaign, which is an annual event for rededication of Abua/Odual to God held at the weekend in Emelego Odual, said that government was impressed with the peaceful initiative of the local government, and will be willing to look into the problems that the Odual people are faced with such as road and other infrastructures that the community is lacking.

The SSG, who was the Special Guest and was represented by Sovens Okari a Permanent Secretary in the Governor’s Office, also commended the youths for peaceful disposition and urged them to continue to embrace the amnesty programme.

In his response, Dr. George Ela, who is the president of Foundation For Education and Social Developemnt of Abua, and the convener of the programme appealed to the state government to make its presence felt in Odual clan, especially in the area of road construction to link the area with the rest of the Rivers State communities, and also rebuild the dilapidated Emelego General hospital which will solve the health needs of the people.

Highlight of the occasion was the lighting of ABOLGA candle of peace and development and the anointing of the land for peace and prosperity as well as fruitfulness.

The Abua/Odual for Christ Campaign is an annual forum to renew the commitment of the people to promoting peaceful coexistence and development of the local government.
