Some residents of Umuahia in the early hours of yesterday foiled an attempt by some hoodlums to vandalise a PHCN sub-station.

Mr Patrick Osum, a resident of Umuahia and member of the PHCN Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit, told newsmen that the hoodlums arrived at Niger sub-station at 4.30 a.m.

He said residents, who saw them attempting to cut PHCN lines at Igbere Street near the sub-station, raised an alarm and pursued the hoodlums.

The residents, he said, succeeded in arresting one of the suspected vandals while the others escaped.

Also speaking on the incident, Mr Livinus Nmaram, Umuahia PHCN Business Manager, called on security agencies to protect the installations of the electricity company.

The manager said PHCN suffers a loss of N10 million monthly due to the activities of vandals.

He commended residents of Umuahia for their prompt action in tackling the vandals.

“I encourage them to continue to protect PHCN facilities,” Nmaram added.
