Reps Probe House Finances
The House of Representatives on Thursday set up a 36-member ad hoc committee to investigate the spending of the House Committee on Services since its inauguration.
The House took the decision in Abuja during an executive session presided over by Speaker Dimeji Bankole.
The House also charged the ad hoc committee to come up with suggestions on how the 2010 capital budget of the House would be spent.
The committee was also asked to examine the budget to ascertain the entitlements of each member and report back to the House within two days.
Prior to Thursday’s meeting, members had complained of paucity of funds which they often attributed to the way and manner the leadership handled the House finances.
Efforts to get the comments of Rep. Mohammed Al-Makura, the Chairman of the House Committee on Services, on the House decision proved abortive, as one of his aides said that he was not disposed to speaking to journalists.
