Political Office Holders Advised To Improve Lot of Electorates
The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Statistics and Strategic Planning, Hon. Okechukwu N. Okirie has called on public office holders to improve the lot of the electorate, to ensure an enduring social and physical development of the people.
Hon. Okirie made the call recently while speaking as a special guest of honour at the commissioning of rural electrification and water projects executed by a member of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Caretaker Committee, Hon. Sunny Obowu, in Omoku.
Hon. Okirie commended, Hon. Sunny Obowu for his magnanimity in providing life sustaining development projects which had eluded the people over the years, and urged future representatives of the people to improve on the strides made by Obowu, which he said is a source of pride in the act of governance.
Speaking as chairman on the occasion, a one time chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council, Dr Gift Wokocha, told the cream of young politicians who fought to usher in a change in ONELGA politics to hold on to their beliefs when they are sworn-in, in order to give political participation a wider scope.
Wokocha commended Hon. Sunny Obowu for achieving such a significant landmark in a short period of his representation of the people and urged the future representatives of the area to take a cue.
Wokocha warned against swearing in crooks, hooligans, rascals and charlatans in the nations political set-up, to advance our position in global politics.
In his speech, the former Chairman of PDP in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Chief B.I. Ordu, who was also the father of the day, expressed joy that young politicians that could replace the likes of the late Chief S.O. Masis, Chief Okiries, Chief Ajies, Chief Victor Masis, among others have emerged and expressed optimism that they would go a long way in Nigerian politics, now begging for sanity.
In his speech, Hon. Sunny Obowu stated that, the inspiration for the project came from God who made it possible for him to have the opportunity to serve.
Giving the vote of thanks, a former councillor in the area, Hon. Edwin Adah, thanked Hon. Obowu on behalf of the people, especially Umu-Agburu, Umu-Karu families in Ahiaorie area of Omoku, who are the beneficiaries of the projects for his magnanimity and prayed God to give him more opportunities to serve the people.
