Perm Sec Urges Principals On Unity
The Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education Mr. Richard Ofuru has advised the two groups of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) to bury their hatchets and reunite as one body to move education in Rivers State forwards.
Mr. Ofuru made the call in a meeting organised for members of Rivers State ANCOPSS in Port Harcourt.
The Permanent Secretary noted that ANCOPSS is known as a body that binds all principals together, contending that if such a body is disunited, education in Rivers State would suffer a setback.
He noted that the ANCOPSS constitution, stipulates clearly that membership shall be mandatory to all Post Primary Schools recognised by both State and Federal Governments, be it Senior or Junior Secondary Schools.
Mr. Ofuru implored members of the association to embrace reconciliation to achieve peaceful operation and progress in the future and cautioned that government would not encourage any association that operate in disunity.
The Permanent Secretary stated that since the present exco had elapsed, he would be obliged to appoint a new election planning committee to conduct election within one week from the date of the meeting.
He therefore appointed a four-man electoral committee headed by Mr. Elis Iyoyo, with Mrs. Christie Akpoguno, Mrs. Ndu and Deacon Apapa as members, charging them to be transparent in conducting the election.
Earlier in their separate speeches, a one time President of ANCOPSS Mr. Elis Iyoyo appealed for understanding to work as one family and gave the assurance that the electoral committee would not disappoint the confidence reposed in them.
