Okocha, Agbese To Feature At NUJ Workshop
Former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Chief Onueze Okocha and co-founder and Editor-In-Chief of Newswatch Magazine, Dan Agbese are among dignitaries that would present papers at a workshop organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State chapter.
The workshop tagged, “Journalism Ethics and the Niger Delta” according to a press statement signed by chairman of the Organising Committee, Sam Iyoyo and Secretary Tony Amadi is slated for Thursday at the Conference Hall, Ministry of Justice, with the State Commissioner for Information, Mrs Ibim Semenitari featuring as special Guest of Honour.
Notable lawyer and human rights activist, Barrister Anyakwe Nsirimovu is expected to presented a paper on, “Journalism Ethics and Law, while Public Reations Manager of Eleme Petrochemical Company (Indorama), Mr Jossy Nkwocha, will speak on “Journalism Practice in the Niger Delta.”
Discussants at the workshop include General Manager of Radio Rivers, Ms Medline Tador and former General Manager of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr Augustine Nwikinaka.
According to the organizers the workshop is aimed at instilling ethical awareness, as a core value for practicing journalists covering the Niger Delta, “it is also to enable journalists in the region apply greater care in handling sensitive economic and security situation that confront them on daily basis in the field.”
Also participants are expected to examine critical ethical issues in the practice in the Niger Delta such as, Reporting in War Situations, insurgence and militancy, the journalists Rights to independence versus commercialisation among others.
The union therefore implored all practicing journalists in the state to endeavor to attend and participate as it promises to be educating.
