Nigeria Must Throw Camp Open –West
With less than three months to the kick-off of the World Cup, former Nigeria international Taribo West has advised Nigeria Coach, Lars Lagerback to throw open the Super Eagles’ camp in order to get competition among the players.
The former Inter star said that it is the only way that the best players can be picked for Nigeria.
“We should throw the camp open because I would bring the desired zeal to fight for places in the team.” West said
“It should not be a question relying on godfathers to make the team. When there is tough opposition among the players, it would lead to the transformation to the team.
“There is the need to also encourage our home-based players to be part of team. After all, we saw how Egypt won the Nations Cup in Angola with a collection of players mostly from the local league.
“Other countries also paraded home-based players in Angola. So, we have exceptional players too from the domestic league who can fit into the Super Eagles for the World Cup,” he said.
West was a member of the Nigeria team at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. He won a gold medal with Nigeria at the Atlanta 96 Olympic.
