NASU Members Begin Warning Strike Over Arrears
Members of Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) Anambra State University chapter have embarked on a one-week warning strike to enforce their demand for the payment of the arrears of their monetised benefits.
The workers are also asking for the payment of the new Consolidated Salary Structure II and the clearing of promotion arrears.
When our correspondent visited the Igbariam campus of the institution on Thursday, most offices were closed but the students were seen writing their examinations under the supervision of the academic staff lecturers.
The Spokesman for the Joint Action Committee of the workers’ unions, Mr Vincent Asoegwu, said that at the end the warning strike, the committee would convene again.
“NASU called the strike to press for the settlement of their monetisation arrears, Consolidated Salary Structure II and the clearing of promotion arrears.
“If at the end of the warning strike the authorities of the university did not accede to our demands, a resolution would be taken on a full-blown strike,” he said.
Asoegwu, however, said that a 21-day notice would be served the authorities before the commencement of the full strike if no compromise was reached.
