Lawmaker Makes Case For Legislators Second Tenure

A member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Reginald Donbraye on Friday in Warri criticised those calling for a single term for legislators.

Donbraye, who represents Bomadi Constituency, told newsmen that those making the call for legislators to step aside after one term, should not be encouraged.

He said that legislators who had performed creditably well should be allowed to recontest.

“In some countries, legislators go for as many terms as they are willing to go.

“Those kicking against the second, third and even fourth term for legislators are ignorant of the constitution.

“The constitution permits even fourth term for legislators,” he said.

He said that the only group that had the power to stop any tenure bid for the legislator, was the constituents as they hold the key to vote in or out any legislator.

Donbraye also said that the people had the right also to mandate their representatives to give account of their stewardship at any time.

He remarked that in this case, if the legislator did not satisfy his people, the people could recall him and put another person instead.

Donbraye also said that all the constituency projects located in his constituency in the past four years, had been completed.
