Lawmaker Boosts Ogoni Scholarship Fund With N.5m
As part of his contributions to the development of education in Ogoniland the deputy speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Dumnamene Deekor has donated N500,000 to the Yime Ogoni Club Scholarship fund.
Hon. Deekor made the donation when the Yime Ogoni Club paid him a courtesy visit in his office last Tuesday.
He stated that the money would be paid in two tranches beginning from this month and April ending, and urged the group to ensure that the scholarship fund was judiciously utilised for the assistance of indigent Ogoni students.
The deputy speaker urged the group to embark on advocacy campaign that would help to stamp out examination malpractice noting that the area has been affected by the vice hence, reduced the level of education among the students.
He stated that Ogoni people have benefited immensely from the present administration’s scholarship programmes and urged the people of the area to continue to support the Amaechi-led administration in the state.
The lawmaker assured the people that more Ogoni indigenes would benefit from the schemes adding that Governor Chibuike Amaechi has directed that qualifying examinations by Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) should be conducted in the rural areas.
He explained that the governor’s directive has further demonstrated his determination to ensure that the less-privileged in the society were given the opportunity to access state government scholarship scheme.
Meanwhile, the deputy speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Dumnamene Deekor has assured the Patriotic Youth Club, Okwali in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State of his support to ensure that the club’s scholarship scheme succeeded.
Hon. Deekor made the pledge when members of the youth club paid him a courtesy visit in his office also last Tuesday.
In their various speeches, the leader of the Yime Ogoni Club, Chief Henry Keunee and that of Okwali Patriotic Youth Club, Mr Young Batem lauded the lawmaker for his quality of leadership in the area and urged him to continue to ensure that Ogoni people remained in the main stream of the present administration in the state.
