Jang Donates N5m To Corps Members For Rejecting Redeployment
Plateau State Govrno. Jonah Jang of Plateau has donated N5 million to corps members deployed to the state for rejecting redeployment as a result of the recent crisis in the area.
Our correspondent reports that the money was donated to the 351 corps members who refused the offer of redeployment from the state granted by the Plateau Youth Service Commission NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga.
Jang, who announced the donation on Tuesday in Jos while addressing the corps members at the end of the three-week orientation course, urged them not to seek redeployment.
“I urge you to stay back and join hands with us to celebrate the victory of peace and the ideals of the NYSC,” he said.
Jang said the NYSC scheme was part of government’s efforts to address the serious problems of nationhood and development when it was established 36 years ago.
He noted that the scheme was established to offer a veritable platform for reconciliation, spirit of oneness and national cohesion among the diverse groups that made up the Nigerian nation.
The governor reffered to the prevailing crisis situation in the state as well as the attendant challenges, and reassured the corps members of the state government’s efforts to end the unfortunate situation.
“Your belief in our state and the desire to stand by us at this trying time will remain indelible in our hearts. Government will not relent in its commitment to fulfil its statutory responsibility to you,” he added.
Jang urged them to resist any attempt to be used as agents of destruction and destabilisation.
The Plateau NYSC Coordinator, Mr Tunde Baba-Ahmed, had earlier said that out of the 1,016 corps members who registered for the orientation course, 707 applied for redeployment, while 351 refused to redeploy.
He said out of the 707, 42 had also applied to withdraw their applications for redeployment, which would be forwarded to Abuja.
