The Ikwerres under the agies of Ikwerre progressives have renewed its right to ensure that an Ikwerre man becomes the substantive vice chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Choba.

The group noted with dismay the absence of an Ikwerreman asVC in the list of those who have served as both Acting and substance VC in Uniport for over 35 years ago.

They said it was regrettable that the host ethnic nationality of the institution was  yet to assume the highest position of the university in its own soil.

According to them, their request is not ambiguous, but to maintain equity, justice and fair play.

They maintained that the Ikwerres have been very pertinent over the issue and should be treated accordingly in a bid to keep the ship afloat.

It would be recalled that Prof. D.V. Ekong from Calabar led the institution as VC between 1977-1982, Prof. S.J.S. Cookey from Opobo as VC 1982-1990, Prof. K. Harrison from Kalabari 1990-1993 and Prof. N. Gadzama from Madiduguri as VC 1993-1994.

Others include Prof. A.T. Salau a Yorubaman, 1994-1995, Prof. N.D. Briggs from Kalabari Acting VC 1995 – 1997, Prof. Theo Vicent Ogoni, Gokhana VC 2997-2000, Prof. Nimi. D. Briggs from Kalabari substantive VC 2000-2005 and Prof. Don Baridam from Khana Ogoni 2005 – 2010, contending why Ikwerreman was missing in the chart.
