The Enugu State Government has announced the release of N20 million for extension of electricity to Nimbo, Opanda and other adjoining communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

Mr Chuks Ugwoke, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Enugu.

Ugwoke said government had approved the sum as an additional sum for the extension of electricity to the communities in the local government.

He said the project would be jointly funded by the Enugu State Rural Electrification Board and the council on 60-40 per cent ratio respectively.

The commissioner said the extension became necessary to accommodate more communities in line with the four-point agenda of the administration

He also said government was ready to deal with “ any person who defrauds the state of its finances through over bloated list of ghost workers.”

“ Council has viewed such unwholesome act with serious concern and warns that collaborators if caught would be made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.

He said that government had directed heads of various ministries, departments and agencies to fish out such persons.

Council, he said, also observed that some taxi cabs in the state were operating without the approved state colours and registration numbers.

The commissioner advised drivers of such cabs to desist as offenders would be sanctioned.
