In a reverse of events that handed Manchester United the European Champions League title at the expense of Bayern Munich in 1999, Bayern last night at the Allianz Areana, Munich came back from a goal down to stun the English champions.

An injury-time winner from Ivica Olic handed the advantage to Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United after a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

Wayne Rooney had put United ahead after just 64 seconds of play but the visitors could not hold onto their lead and Franck Ribery levelled with a heavily deflected free-kick on 77 minutes.

Olic then swooped in time added on to put a dent in United’s hopes of reaching a fourth consecutive semi-final in the competition.

To make matters worse for Alex Ferguson’s side, Rooney had to be helped off the pitch with an apparent foot injury as the full-time whistle sounded.

In the other match, Lyon took a giant step towards their first Champions League semi-final with victory over French rivals Bordeaux.

Lisandro Lopez put the hosts ahead after a mistake by Michael Ciani, but Marouane Chamakh headed in a 14th-minute equaliser.

Lyon were ahead at half-time thanks to Michel Bastos’s strike, which came after another defensive mistake.

And Lisandro’s penalty gave Lyon a two-goal cushion after Matthieu Chalme was harshly penalised for handball.

soft effort when his teammates started celebrating. Cesar had dropped the easy ball into the path of Daniele De Rossi, who toe-poked home to win the all French first leg clash.
