Arrest Bayelsa Finance Commissioner, IYC Tells IG

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has challenged the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ogbonna Onovo to order the immediate arrest of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Finance, Silver Opuala Charles who has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The commissioner, along with three other officials of the state government were declared wanted by the anti-graft agency for offences bothering on money laundering.

But while some of the officials have been arrested and charged to court by the EFCC, the finance commissioner is still at large.

However, in a press briefing in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, the Secretary General of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Mr Odein Eradiri alleged that the finance commissioner is being harboured in government House, Yenagoa with police and state Security Service protection.

The IYC scribe also called on the Bayelsa State Government and the state police commissioner to make the  commissioner available for EFCC.

He used the opportunity to call on the commissioner to honour the commissions invitation to save the state from embarrassment.
