Abia Won’t Abandon Road Projects – Gov’s Aide
Special Adviser (Project Monitoring and Implementation to the Abia State Governor Mr Uwakwe Ukaegbu, has assured that The Theodore Orji, administration will not abandon any road project.
Ukaegbu gave the assurance in Umuahia recently while speaking on ongoing road rehabilitation projects in Umuahia, Aba and other parts of the state.
The governor’s aide was reacting to some residents’ fears that some of the roads undergoing rehabilitation in Umuahia might not be completed before the end of the administration.
Ukaegbu expressed satisfaction with the current level of work on the roads, saying that there had been a tremendous progress.
He said that rehabilitation work on the Aba-Owerri and Port Harcourt roads, both federal roads, had almost been completed with more than 70 per cent of the work done.
Ukaegbu assured Umuahia residents that the city’s road projects would be completed before the onset of the rainy season.
“Today, Port Harcourt Road has become accessible up to Asa Road and Faulk’s Road, beginning from Eze Ikonne spot to A-Line, has been re-asphalted,” he said.
Ukaegbu, however, blamed the delay in the completion of some of the road projects on the kidnappers’ activities and the paucity of funds.
He said that government was still negotiating with the contractors, who fled the area when some expatriate contractors were kidnapped, to return to site.
Ukaegbu said that work on some roads in Umuahia and its environs as well as others in Abia North Senatorial District had been completed.
He cited the Alayi-Amankali-Akoli-Imenyi roads in Bende Local Government Area as examples of the completed roads.
“The governor is doing everything within his powers to make sure that the roads are completed before the end of his administration,” he said.
He also said that government had recorded some feats in its housing project, adding that the Legislative Quarters in Amuba had been completed for the lawmakers’ accommodation.
