2nd Round Of NIPD Begins In Degema

The second round of the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDS) campaign has kicked off in Degema, headquarters of the Degema Local Government Area (LGA) with the state Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi, calling out the people of Rivers State to embrace it to ensure the security of their children’s future.

The Governor, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Anthony Nwiado, stated that the flag-off ceremony was intended to raise awareness for available immuniztion services in order to prevent and control the out-break of childhood killer diseases such as Tuberculosis, Measles, Polio and other vaccine preventable diseases.

He noted that out break of diseases are more serious among children, especially, those not protected by vaccination and sued for regular immunizations of children , “which is free.”

While recalling that the United Nations Convention on Child rights enjoins all to protect children from all forms of diseases, and urging the LGA to do same, Dr Nwiado commended partner organisations: World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), National Public Health Development Agency (NPHDA), and the Rotary International (RI) for their financial and technical support.

In his address, the representative of WHO, Dr Richard Koko declared that his organisation was making every effort to ensure that the world is polio free, noting that “Nigeria has made significant effort in the eradication of polio.”
