Following the completion of the first phase of the Rumuwoji Market, popularly called Mile One Market, the Rivers State Government says it would soon commence the allocation of stalls to the original owners of the stalls.

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who led the entire members of the State Executive Council on inspection of some on-going projects to ascertain the extent of work, said the allocation of the completed stalls would pave way for the commencement of work on the second phase of the project.

He assured that all identifiable lapses in the first phase of the market project, such as ventilation, space and conveniences, would be corrected in the second phase, noting that the aim of the visit was to ensure that all projects embarked upon by the present adminisatration were completed.

The Governor reassured the traders that the shops would be reallocated to their original owners who were displaced in the course of the construction work, and warned against any act that would jeopardize government’s good intention to the people.

At the site of the Justice Karibi – Whyte Specialist Hospital at Greater Port Harcourt City, the Governor expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of work on the project, noting that inspite of the initial $3million paid to the contractor, the extent of work so far was not commensurate with money paid.

Governor Amaechi, therefore, called on contractors handling state government projects to match standard with speed, noting that there was no justification for a contractor to collect money without delivering on the job.

He directed the Commissioner for Health to convene  a meeting between the contractor and the stakeholders with a view to sorting out issues in the contract.

The inspection tour equally took the Governor and his team to the NO.6 Football Field in the old Port Harcourt Township where the Commissioner for Sports was directed to ensure that the project mets specification.
