Man, 26, Kills Self With Father’s Gun

Tragedy struck Monday morning in Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State, as a 26-year old fresh graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), shot himself to death with his father’s double barrel gun.

The deceased, Mr Chineye Okonkwo, according to investigations, who until his sudden death, resided with his parents at 6, College Road, Ogui New Layout, Enugu reportedly shot himself to death about 9.00am in his room.

Chineye, who hailed from Eziowelle, in Idemili North Local Government of Anambra State made Second Class Upper Division in Agric/Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Although at the time of filing this report, it was not certain why the deceased committed suicide, but a source who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said Chineye’s inability to get a lucrative job might have forced him to shoot himself to death.

Also speaking, mother of the deceased, Mrs Okonkwo confirmed that her son shot himself to death, adding that she was on her way to Awka when she was asked to turn back over the “sad development”.

“I was surprised when I was as ked to return to Enugu while I was on my way to work. It is unfortunate that my second son decided to end his life like this. He was very humble boy. He killed himself with his father’s gun.

If he was facing any problem, he should have told me or his father, he did not even show any sign,” she lamented.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
