on

One hundred and eight accused persons were yesterday arraigned before a Federal High Court, Abuja over the Jos mayhem.

They were accused of various offences including conspiracy to commit various acts with arm, fire arm and dangerous weapons.

They were also accused of endangering the lives of Jos residents and environs causing the death of several people and inflicting injuries.

Among the charges are causing damage to public and private properties and natural resources all contrary to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Act.

Some of them were also charged with the possession of illegal weapons and all accused persons pleaded not guilty of all the charges leveled against them.

Their counsels objected all the charges on the ground of jurisdiction saying that the crimes were committed at Jos and not in Abuja.  They were of the opinion that the Federal High Court  sitting in Abuja lacks the jurisdiction to try the matter.

All the accused persons were remanded in Kuje prison custody till 18-23 of next month.
