The Cross River State Government has concluded arrangements to commence Residency Training Programme for Medical Doctor in order to help improve the health care needs of its citizenry.

Addressing Journalists at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Cenre in Calabar, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Edet Ikpi, pointed out that the State has acquired  21st century medical equipment which requires well versed medical personnel to handle for the good of all.

To this end, Dr. Ikpi explained that government has received   seven Blood Bank Refrigerators, 12 Anesthetic Machines, among others, from Turkey, as the Imoke administration focuses on both the primary and secondary health care needs of the people, just as Bekwara and Obubra Local Government Areas of the State have been mapped out as the pilot centres for the scheme.

He pointed out that a lot of funds were saved for the government during  the director purchase of the equipment from their manufacturers rather than through contract awards.

On the activities of the Local Birth Attendants, the Commissioner posited that since there is no scientific way of ascertaining their mode of practice, government would only assist by encouraging them through the provision of some medical accessories, like beds and beddings, so as not to jeopardize the health they are even trying to protect.
