Court Remands Elumelu, Ubani, Others In EFCC Custody

A federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, ordered that three members of the National Assembly, Hon Nicholas Ubani, Hon Ndidi Elumelu, Hon Mohammed Chigbo and seven others be remanded in the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The National Assembly members were accused of involving themselves in a contract scam at the Rural Electrification Agency, totalling N5.2billion.
After listening to the submissions of the prosecuting counsel and the defence, the presiding judge, Justice Garuba Umaru adjoured the case till today when he would rule on the bail application filed by the accused.
Justice Umaru said he needed time to study the submissions of all counsels and assured that justice would be done.
Hon Ubani and his fellow accused are facing a 135 count charges for  allegedly defrauding the federal government to the tune of N5.2billion on the Rural Electrification Agency contract.
