Earlier in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army , Enugu, Major- General MD Isah, explained that the Nigerian Army Social Activities which was previously referred to as the West African Social Activities (WASA) , took its origin from the days of the Royal West African Frontier Force (RWAFF).
His words: “Is an occasion bringing together series of social activities to celebrate the success in the course of our duty throughout the year , with our families, friends and well wishers. This social tradition, which remains highly valued in the Nigerian Army, is necessary for the promotion of the ideals of adherence to military values and excellent civilian-military relations , as part of the Chief of Army Staff ’s vision for the Nigerian Army.” According to him, the year 2009 was very successful in the 82 Division , adding that the impact of their training and high level of professional competence was not only felt within the country, but even outside the shores of the nation.
He made it clear that “Over 1,500 personnel of the division participated successfully in the United Nations African Mission in Darfur , and by the grace of God, returned home successfully with out recording any casualty.” The GOC, therefore, reasoned that all these remarkable achievements coupled with successes recorded by the officers and soldiers of the division especially in the area of internal security operations, among other feats, are worthy of celebrations.
“It is imperative that I sincerely acknowledge the executive governor and the good people of Enugu State for their wonderful support to the division in its drive towards achieving the successes recorded in the year 2009.”
