A former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and immediate past Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, have thrown their weight behind the adoption of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President by the National Assembly
The duo acknowledged that though the process through which Dr Jonathan was adopted may not be flawless, they said the action of the national lawmakers was the best thing to do in the circumstance.
This was part of the resolution of the meeting of the National Democratic Movement which was held in Abuja, last Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by prominent politicians such as the former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinibu, Chief Olu Falae, Alhaji Atahiru Bafarawa, Chief Tom Ikimi, Senator Dan Obi, Alhaji Yahaya Kwande, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN) and Prince Tonye Princewill.
Meanwhile, the conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has called on the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to stop forthwith its proposed trip to Saudi Arabia to visit President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The CNPP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Osita Okechukwu described the planned trip as waste of public funds and an exercise in futility.
The CNPP said that the chances of the team finding President Yar’Adua was very slim, adding, only a medical panel which is constitutionally empowered to determine the true health and condition of the President should embark on such trips.
Media reports, yesterday, indicated that the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) had constituted a six –man team to visit the ailing President in Saudi Arabia.
The team comprises Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Yayale Ahmed, Health Minister, Babatunde Oshotimehim, Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Petroleum Resources Minister, Rilwanu Lukman, Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN) and Agriculture Minister, Sayyadi Abba Ruma.
