Anambra Poll: Obi, Ngige Unimpressed

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has expressed displeasure over yesterday’s conduct of governorship election in the State.

The governor was speaking after visiting about seven polling booths in his home town in Agulu, Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He said it was regrettable that prospective voters could not find their names in the voters register in order to exercise their franchise.

Also speaking from his home town, the National Chairman of All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh, said it was surprising that only 14 ballot papers were supplied to a particular polling booth at Ebenesi Primary School, which has over 2,000 eligible voters.

It was understood that Governor Obi did not vote since most of his supporters were denied assess to vote. He said his vote would be meaningless given the situation on ground.

In his reaction, one of the governorship candidates, Chris Ngige, who spoke to newsmen, said the issue of people not seeing their names in the voters’ register was a great concern and fraud.

He noted that he had earlier complained of “this tricks”. According to him, “Initially, they did not find my name, but when I insisted and asked them to bring all their materials they now saw my name.

Meanwhile, voting ended at 4.00pm on Saturday in all polling units and collation centres in the Anambra State Governorship election.

The election was conducted in a very tight security. The collation of results was still going on as the time of going to press.

The Minister of Information, Prof Dora Akunyili has described yesterday’s Anambra Governorship election as peaceful.

Akunyili who stated this after monitoring the election in the state, commenced the people for conducting themselves in a peaceful manager.

She also commended the security agencies and other agencies for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in Anambra State.
