The National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has joined other well-meaning organisations to congratulate Governor Peter Obi on  his re-election as the Governor of Anambra State.

Obi won the election on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prof  Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the PDP urged him to commence the process of genuine reconciliation by providing a platform where all citizens of Anambra would have a sense of belonging. The party also congratulated its candidate in the election, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for the maturity displayed during and after the elections.

“Professor Soludo’s conduct before, during and after the elections, his acceptance of the results inspite of the imperfections and his pledge to cooperate with the declared winner are qualities we recommend for all politicians as we move forward to advance the cause of democracy in Nigeria.

“By this heroic act and his resolve to spare the people of Anambra State the trauma of endless litigations, he has set a shinning example of the quality of politics we practise in the PDP, the party said.

The statement, however, urged PDP” leaders in the state to view this setback as a rallying call to soberly reflect on the state of PDP in the state with a view to burying their differences to forestall any future deliverance.

In another development, the Enugu State Governor, Barrister Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, has also congratulated Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State on his re-election.

Chime in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Vin Martin Obiora Ilo, said the election underscored the fact that democracy in Nigeria had come to stay.

According to him, by this new mandate, Mr Obi was recharged in his commitment to bring genuine development to the people of Anambra State.

He, therefore, commended the Federal Government, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and the people and residents of Anambra State, for ensuring that last Saturday’s election was successful and peaceful.

Governor Chime prayed God to gui+de and bless the re-elected Governor throughout his final term as the chief executive of the state.
