Ake Slams Rogue LG Chairmen
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chief Godspower Ake has carpeted some local government chairmen in the state over poor performance.
Chief Ake who bared his mind in an exclusive interview with The Tide on Wednesday said he equally supported the impeachment of some local government bosses in the light of the weight of allegations against them.
The PDP chief who cited the case of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government chairman as one example said though all the chairmen belonged to the PDP, the party would not hide corrupt officials who give it a bad name.
He blamed flagrant expenditure and overbloated projects as one of the banes of local government development, stressing that so many of the chairmen were openly corrupt.
Chief Ake stressed that politics was all about service, and that those who go into politics for personal gains only end up being rejected and abandoned by their people in the long run.
The Rivers PDP boss dismissed the view that the party was divided since after the exit of Dr Peter Odili, “ there is no faction in the party. The PDP is not divided, we are friends and we still see ourselves as friends”.
He explained that most party members who are often referred to as Abuja Boys’ were only there because of the security problem in the state at then.
Chief Ake also commended the Governor Amaechi administration for its developmental strides, stressing that since Governor Chubike Amaechi assumed office, the state had improved, infrastructure and security wise.
For him, the party can only provide advisory role and projecting good candidates who are capable of transforming the polity and affecting their constituencies .
The PDP boss who would celebrate his 70th birthday on Sunday also submitted that his tenure as party chairman would witness drastic changes unlike before, adding that politics was all about action as most politicians who talk don’t act.
