US -Based NGO Donates Audiometers To BMSH

A Non-Governmental Organisation of Rivers State Communities in the United States of America (ORCUSA) has donated four Audiometers to the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH) in Port Harcourt.

While delivering the Audiometers to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker at BMSH, the president of the organisation, Dr. Ranson West Douglas disclosed that the ORCUSA is a non-profit organisation, having 501 status in the United States of America.

According to him, the organisation consist of all professionals from the various communities of Rivers State.

He further stated that his organisation help to raise awareness of the deplorable effect of the ecological degradation of the Rivers State as a result of oil and gas exploitation and exploration.

Dr. West Douglas added that ORCUSA also promote peace and harmony among the various communities in the state as well as to liaise with government and industry for the betterment of the Rivers people.

In his response, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Parker who was represented by the Medical Director of BMSH, Dr. Bernard Aprioku thanked the organisation for donating the Audiometers to the hospital and promised that the equipment will be put in good use.

He disclosed that the state is in an era of precise diagnosis where ailments are detected with hi-technology equipment so as to administer correct medication, while in some cases where drugs are not required, the patients are simply given health education.

“The government is prepared to partner with Non Governmental Organisations to alleviate the health burden of its citizenry,” Aprioku said.
