…To Spend N320bn On Greater PH Phase 1

Development of phase one ‘A’ of the Greater Port Harcourt City would gulp a staggering sum of N320billion.

The Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, Dame Aleruchi Cookey Gam who disclosed this recently said the authority plans to construct 30,000 housing units in the first phase.

Dame Cookey-Gam who was speaking to journalists noted that the Rivers State Government decided to embark on the Greater Port Harcourt project to improve on the status of old Port Harcourt City providing modern infrastructure that would engender development of Rivers  people.

According to her, the said housing development excludes the new Rivers State University of Science and Technology and the Karibi Whyte modern hospital, adding that the phase one ‘A’ of the project covers Ikwerre, Etche and parts of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The one time Attorney-General emphasized that an engineering driving and auto-photo mapping have been done by competent consultants while environmental impact Assessment is being fine-turned to ensure that on part of the state suffers any negative challenge as a result of the Greater Port Harcourt project.

Dame Cookey-Gam also revealed that government was mindful of the consequences of conurbation and urbanization, pointing out that all local communities have been integrated so that local languages and cultures do not go into extinction in future.

She further explained that because of the quality of massive planning and engineering design some countries including the Koreans have already indicated interest in partnering with government , particularly the Onne axis and appealed for understanding.
