RVHA Confirms Auditors-General For State, LG …Indicts Principal Officers
The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mr Gogo Harrison and Mr Chima Gregori Anyanwu as auditors-general for the state and local government, respectively.
The House also indicted the local government councils’ Treasurers, Heads of Personnel Management (HPM) and Heads of Works for allegedly conniving with the council chairmen to defraud their respective councils of substantial resources meant for the development of their areas.
The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Tonye Harry indicted the local government principal officers yesterday during their screening of Mr Chima Gregori Anyanwu as auditor-general designate for local government and Mr Gogo Harrison, auditor-general designate for the state.
The speaker noted that if the affected officers knew that they would be dismissed when found wanting they would sit up.
To avoid such situation, the Speaker advised the new auditor-general for local government to ensure that he strengthens the internal disciplinary measures in his office in order to check the spurious spending in the local government system.
He told the new local government auditor-general designate that much is being expected from him and wished him well in his new assignment.
Responding to question put to him by the lawmakers, Mr Anyanwu assured that he would work in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the directives of the state House of Assembly.
He stated that the absence of a substantive local government auditor-general in the state for over ten years had posed a lot of challenges for the office, assuring that training and retraining of staff would top his administration’s agenda.
