Teachers in public schools in Rivers State have been urged to brace up to the challenges posed by the efforts of the state government to make education functional and effective in the state.

The Permanent Board Member I, serving on the board of Rivers State Universal Basic Education (UBE), Mr. Lucky Worluh, who gave the advice said that they could do this by being alive to their responsibilities.

Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, recently, Mr. Worluh said that primary schools in the state had been reduced from 1,666 to less than a thousand following the merging of some schools.

He disclosed that as a result of the development, the head teachers of some of the affected schools were transferred in order of seniority.

Describing primary schools as the bed rock of education, Mr. Worluh stressed the need for the teachers to always reciprocate the gesture of the state government in uplifting the welfare of teachers in the state.

In the same vein, he urged pupils and students of Rivers origin to take their studies seriously as government was determined to improve the standard of education in the state.
