RSG Plans Building Code …To Check PH Property Dev

The Rivers State Government says it is working on a building code that would regulate the conduct of property development within Port Harcourt city and its environs.
The commissioner for Housing, Hon Marshall Stanley Umom who said this at The Tide Editorial Roundtable forum also said it would forestall the growing incidence of collapsed building in the city.
Hon Uwom said that the code when published will integrate stakeholders in the building sector to contribute towards the development of the state.
“We will want to address the building code that will regulate housing development in Rivers State so that proper standards are maintained.
‘That will permit also professionals from the building community, Architects, the engineers to be integrated into what government is doing’, he said.
The commissioner said that the ministry has set up an eviction committee to look into the issue of llegal occupation of government buildings while a data bank of all low cost houses in the state is being worked out.
