The Rivers State Government has ordered contractors handling the model primary and secondary schools projects to return to site or face revocation of their contracts.
State commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi gave the order while receiving the national executives of proprietors of private schools, who paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Port Harcourt.
Dame Nemi frowned at the slow pace of work at the model schools , especially at Omuma and ordered the contractor to return to site immediately.
Her words: “ All contractors for the building of the model primary school are advised in their own interest to get back to site otherwise their contract would be terminated”
The education commissioner remarked that since the weather was fair enough for them to execute their work without hitches they had no excuses but to return to site. She however commended those who have completed their jobs on time saying the state government is grateful for their effort.
She called on contractors who have completed their jobs to come to the ministry to collect the balance of their payments by next week.
Dame Nemi equally called on those who are yet to complete their jobs to do so before they would receive the remaining part of their payments.
On the other hand, the ministry of education has charged owners of private schools to operate within the precinct of the law establishing private schools.
Giving the charge during the visit of the executive members of NAPPS, led by its state chairman, Dr Edua Opara the commissioner for education frowned at a situation where private schools operate outside the laws of the state.
In her remarks, NAPPS chairman, Dr Opara lauded the initiative of the state government concerning private schools.
On his part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr Richard Ofuru sought the cooperation of private schools in the on-going registration of WAEC and NECO exams to curtail exam malpractices.
